Brazen Careerist Meetup in NYC
Posted by ajlovesya on August 26, 2008
As you can see from the large glowing blue button to the right I am a member of “Brazen Careerist”: a network of 20-somethings blogging their professional and personal experiences. Last Tuesday, after being a member of this group for almost 5 months I had the chance to meet fellow bloggers, and Brazen Careerist co-founders Penelope Trunk and Ryan Paugh.
It.was.awesome.
What I loved the most about the event –aside from the open bar– was the fact that everyone had a specific topic (or niche) that they discussed using a gen y perspective. Whether it was health and fitness (Adam Gilbert), interpersonal communications (Lauren Westbrook), the beauty in so called awkward behavior (Sammy D), or simply trying to figure out what it means to be successful (Tiffany Joiner) we each brought something unique and valuable to the table.
But it would have been lame if we spent the entire time talking about our blogs. While our blogs certainly reflect who were are and our experiences, they are simply one part of us. So we spent time talking about the other ways in which we are all rock stars. Someone recently quit their job to pursue a passion, while another discussed her envious job at a top cosmetics company. It is nothing short of inspiring to see people my age who have direction and set goals for themselves while embracing uncertainty and loving who they are.
I certainly hope there are more to come!
