Why This Kind of Blog?
Entry Level Living…what exactly does that mean?
Entry-level generally refers to jobs that require little skills or knowledge. However, for those of us working those jobs, the experience often acts as a transitional period from being told what your life should be to figuring out what you want your life to be. Most of us are young, fresh out of college, and confused as ever as we navigate new rules of work and life.
This blog deals with my professional and personal development–beginning right out of college. Every time I turn around there is a discussion about the generation gap: how my generation perceives virtually every aspect of life (down to what exactly it means to live) drastically different from previous generations. I want this blog to be a place to further examine what those differences are. There is more to me than the work I do yet the career path I take is obviously an indicator of who I am. I’m in a new city that is constantly being heralded as the next great city yet is plagued by a myriad of social ills, most notably violence. It also claims to have the highest percentage of non profits so the city is the ideal place to start my non profit career and my growth as woman of color.
This blog is such a work in progress it took me weeks just to come up with a title and another few weeks to tell people I even started writing it. So bear with me! One of the best compliments that I have received is that my writing style allows people to feel comfortable disagreeing with me and sharing their opinions. That’s a great deal of pressure yet ultimately what I hope this blog will be: a place for an open and honest exchange of ideas as it relates to gen y.
